Stainless Steel Countersunk Serrated Lock Washers

Type V Serrated Washers for 90° Countersunk Head Screws

Conical Type V washers seat beneath compatible countersunk screw heads. Their twisted external serrations provide localized contact while the profile follows the inclined underside of the head. Available to traditional DIN 6798 V dimensions and customer specifications.

Product Overview

Stainless Steel Countersunk Serrated Lock Washers combine a thin conical body, round center hole and radial external twisted teeth. Unlike flat DIN 6798 A or J washers, the Type V profile is formed for an inclined countersunk bearing surface.

The washer fits between a compatible countersunk screw head and a prepared mating countersink. Matching the head angle, head diameter and washer geometry helps avoid point contact, uneven seating, distortion and poor serration engagement. The serrated contact may resist relative rotation, but does not guarantee that a joint will never loosen.

VALTOR supplies 304 / A2 and 316 / A4 options for machinery, equipment panels and OEM assemblies. For an RFQ, provide screw size, head angle and diameter, washer d1 and d2, thickness, material, quantity and drawing. DIN 6798:1988-07 is withdrawn without replacement; the designation remains a traditional purchasing and dimensional reference, not a current standard.

Dimensions are in millimetres and are representative purchasing data, not a complete tolerance specification. Confirm the ordered size, tolerances, material condition and profile before production. Additional listed sizes M2, M2.5, M3.5, M14 and M16 are subject to supply.

M1.6, M7 and sizes M18–M30 are not listed DIN 6798 V sizes. Larger or otherwise nonstandard parts may be offered by drawing as custom countersunk serrated washers, not strict DIN 6798 V.

Countersunk Geometry, Serration Contact & Screw Matching

V-Shaped Profile
The conical form follows the inclined head underside; it is not a flat external-tooth washer.
Matched Assembly
Countersunk screw head → Type V conical serrated washer → prepared countersunk component. Install the concave side toward the screw head.
Head Angle Matching
Traditional Type V geometry is approximately 90°. An 82° inch countersunk head or another angle requires separate compatibility verification or a custom washer.
Serrated Contact
During tightening, the serrated edges engage the head underside and mating bearing surface locally. Contact depends on clamp load, tooth geometry, material and surface hardness.
Finished Head Height
Adding a washer can change seating height. A countersink designed for a bare screw may leave the head protruding; critical flushness requires a recess designed for the screw-plus-washer combination.
A / J / V Comparison
A: external serrated flat type. J: internal serrated flat type. V: conical countersunk external serrated type. These forms are not interchangeable.
Surface Condition
Teeth may mark painted, decorative or soft surfaces. Coatings and surface hardness can change engagement.
Performance Limits
DIN 6798 V is a traditional serrated washer, not a cam-type wedge-lock pair. No universal locking torque, holding force or vibration-proof performance is claimed.

304 / 316 Stainless Steel & Size Options

304 / A2 is a common choice for general machinery and corrosion-resistant equipment assemblies. 316 / A4 is an option for humid, outdoor, coastal and more corrosion-sensitive service. Neither grade is corrosion-proof; selection depends on exposure and the complete assembly.

Spring/carbon steel versions may be specified with zinc plating or another agreed finish. Serration function depends on suitable material condition and formed geometry: soft untreated stainless must not be assumed to perform identically to hardened spring steel.

Choose material with regard to corrosion, screw material, mating-surface hardness and application. Main commercial sizes are M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 and M12; the additional traditional sizes are M2, M2.5, M3.5, M14 and M16. Stock and lead time are confirmed per enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DIN 6798 V Washer?

A thin conical serrated lock washer for compatible countersunk head screws. Its external twisted teeth provide localized contact within a prepared countersunk joint.

What is the difference between DIN 6798 A, J and V?

A is an external serrated flat washer; J is an internal serrated flat washer; V is a countersunk/conical external serrated washer.

What countersunk screw angle is DIN 6798 V designed for?

Traditional Type V products are intended for compatible metric screws with approximately 90° included head geometry. Other angles, including 82°, require verification or a custom washer. Head diameter and countersink depth also matter.

Is DIN 6798 still a current standard?

No. DIN 6798:1988-07 was withdrawn without replacement. DIN 6798 V remains a recognized purchasing designation, and parts continue to be commercially supplied to traditional dimensions by agreement.

Can VALTOR supply DIN 6798 V in 304 or 316 Stainless Steel?

Yes. 304 / A2 and 316 / A4 options, plus custom drawing-based configurations, can be supplied. Confirm material condition, geometry, quantity and inspection requirements when ordering.
