Product Overview

Flange nuts combine a hex nut body with a one-piece flange that creates a larger bearing surface than a standard hex nut. This design helps distribute clamping force, supports stable positioning and can reduce the need for a separate washer in many assemblies.

VALTOR supplies DIN 6923 and ISO 4161 stainless steel flange nuts in serrated and smooth-bearing versions. Serrated undersides provide additional resistance to loosening, while non-serrated flanges provide a broad, smooth contact area.

304 and 316 stainless steel options support corrosion-resistant machinery, equipment and fabricated assemblies. Metric thread sizes, packing, documentation and custom dimensional requirements can be supplied according to the order.

Integrated Flange & Serration Performance

DIN 6923 / ISO 4161 flange nuts combine a hexagonal wrenching body with an enlarged bearing flange; the underside may be serrated or smooth according to the joint requirement.

Integrated Bearing Flange
The enlarged base distributes clamping load over a wider area than a standard hex nut, reduces localized pressure and can simplify suitable assemblies where a separate flat washer might otherwise be considered. Washer requirements still depend on the joint design and engineering specification.
Serrated Flange Nuts
Underside serrations can bite into the mating surface and increase resistance to rotational loosening. They suit joints where anti-loosening behavior is more important than preserving a finished contact surface.
Non-Serrated Flange Nuts
A smooth flange provides the larger bearing area without aggressive serrations and is appropriate where surface protection, a smoother interface or avoidance of serration marks is important.
Serrated vs Non-Serrated Selection
Select according to vibration conditions, mating surface, required locking behavior, surface protection, material and the complete assembly specification. The two versions are not identical in function.

Material, Thread & Finish Options

Material, thread, finish and flange underside should be specified together for the mating fastener and service environment.

1304 Stainless Steel — Suitable for general industrial equipment, machinery and fastening applications requiring good corrosion resistance.
2316 Stainless Steel — Preferred for outdoor, coastal, humid and more corrosive industrial environments.
3Carbon Steel Options — May be supplied where mechanical properties, cost or a specified surface treatment make carbon steel suitable.
4Thread Matching — Confirm diameter, pitch, Metric / UNC / UNF system where applicable, material, mechanical requirement, finish and assembly environment.
5Serration Selection — State whether a serrated flange or smooth / non-serrated flange is required.

Finish availability depends on the base material and technical specification; not every finish applies to every material.

Quality Control & Documentation

Inspection covers mating-thread fit, flange geometry, serrations where applicable, material and surface condition.

Serration Inspection
Material & Surface Inspection

Thread size, pitch and mating fit are checked to the required specification. Dimensional inspection may cover nut height, width across flats, flange diameter, flange thickness and thread dimensions. Serrated versions are checked for formation, consistency, underside condition and visible deformation or damage without assigning unsupported performance values. Material, finish consistency, burrs and visible manufacturing defects are also checked. Order-specific documentation may include a Material Certificate / MTC, raw material report, dimensional inspection report or third-party inspection support.

Washer Consideration

The integrated flange provides a larger bearing surface and may reduce the need for a separate washer in suitable assemblies. The actual washer requirement remains dependent on joint design and project specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between flange nuts and standard hex nuts?

Flange nuts include an integrated flange that provides a larger bearing surface, while standard hex nuts usually require a separate washer when additional support is needed.

What are serrated flange nuts used for?

Serrated flange nuts are designed for applications where additional resistance against loosening is required, especially in assemblies affected by vibration.

When should I choose stainless steel flange nuts?

Stainless steel flange nuts are suitable for applications requiring corrosion resistance, outdoor exposure or cleaner surface conditions.

How are flange nuts packaged for export shipment?

Flange nuts can be supplied in bags, cartons, boxes or customized export packaging according to quantity and customer requirements.

Can you provide inspection documents and customized packaging?

Yes. Material certificates, inspection documents and customized packaging can be arranged according to order requirements.
