Low Head Socket Head Cap Screws

DIN 7984 Stainless Steel Low Head Socket Screws for Compact Machinery & Equipment

DIN 7984 Low Head Socket Head Cap Screws combine a reduced-height cylindrical head, internal hex drive and metric machine thread for machinery where conventional socket-head clearance is limited. The head remains above the component without requiring a countersink, while DIN 7984:2022-03 defines reduced loadability as an inherent design consideration.

Product Overview

DIN 7984 provides a lower head profile than a conventional Socket Head Cap Screw, supporting moving-component clearance, restricted equipment height, machine-cover clearance and compact mechanical packaging without machining a countersink.

The thinner head contains less material, while the internal hex socket occupies part of the remaining section. DIN 7984 therefore has reduced loadability and must not be assumed to provide DIN 912 head performance simply because material or property class is similar.

For quotations, specify DIN 7984, diameter, pitch, under-head length, material, stainless grade or steel property requirement, full or partial thread, finish, mating thread, clearance, quantity and drawing where required.

Low Head Clearance, Reduced Loadability & Socket Engagement

Low Head Design
Lower than DIN 912, not countersunk like DIN 7991 and not rounded like ISO 7380.
Clearance Selection
Consider vertical clearance, axial and radial tool access, joint load and adjacent moving components—not head height alone.
Reduced Loadability
Reduced head height and the internal socket leave a smaller critical head cross-section than a full-height Socket Head Cap Screw. No unsupported universal percentage is claimed.
Socket Engagement
Use the correct hex size, full insertion, straight alignment and a sound tool to reduce recess rounding and driver slip.
DIN 7984 vs DIN 912
DIN 7984 has lower projection and reduced loadability; DIN 912 uses a conventional taller cylindrical head with different socket and strength geometry.
DIN 7984 vs DIN 7991
DIN 7984 remains above the surface and needs no countersink; DIN 7991 seats inside a 90° countersink for a flush surface.
DIN 7984 vs ISO 7380
DIN 7984 uses a low cylindrical profile; ISO 7380 uses a rounded or domed button-head profile.

Stainless Steel, Steel & Size Options

1304 / A2 Stainless Steel — Primary corrosion-resistant option for machinery, automation and fixtures.
2316 / A4 Stainless Steel — Increased corrosion resistance for compatible humid, outdoor and coastal equipment.
3Carbon / Alloy Steel — Available with applicable 8.8 or 10.9 requirement and specified finish.
4Commercial Range — M3–M24 and approximately 6–100 mm; not every diameter and length combination is standard.

Thread, Length & OEM Manufacturing

Thread & Length

Metric coarse is primary. Metric fine, full or partial thread and longer sizes depend on DIN requirements, diameter and drawing.

Custom Low Head Screws

Drawing-controlled head diameter/height, socket, thread and finish are custom when they differ from DIN 7984. UNC / UNF versions are custom or other-standard products.

RFQ Information

Provide DIN 7984 or custom, diameter, pitch, under-head length, material, property requirement, thread length, finish, quantity and drawing/sample.

Packaging

Inner bags, boxes, export cartons, wooden pallets, customer labels, part numbers and authorized private-label packaging.

Head, Socket & Dimensional Quality

Thread Profile & Fit
Under-Head Length
Low Head dk & k
Hex Socket s & t
Material Verification

Inspection may verify diameter, pitch, thread length, GO / NO-GO fit, under-head length, head diameter, head height, flatness, cylindrical profile, concentricity, socket geometry and material. Mechanical testing follows actual DIN, material and customer requirements; no unsupported proof load, torque or clamp load is published.

Applications

Low-profile internal-hex fastening where machinery clearance is limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DIN 7984?

DIN 7984 specifies Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screws with a low cylindrical head and reduced loadability for limited-clearance machinery.

What is the difference between DIN 7984 and DIN 912?

DIN 7984 has a substantially lower cylindrical head and reduced loadability; DIN 912 uses a conventional taller socket-head geometry.

What is the difference between DIN 7984 and DIN 7991?

DIN 7984 remains above the surface without a countersink. DIN 7991 uses a 90° countersunk head for flush or near-flush seating.

What sizes can VALTOR supply?

The family covers M3–M24. Common commercial lengths are around 6–100 mm, with longer sizes for suitable larger diameters and specifications.

Why does DIN 7984 have reduced loadability?

The lower head contains less material, while the internal hex socket occupies part of the remaining head section, limiting head loadability.
